Artist Statement:
This zine is inspired by prescription drugs and their negative side effects. The goal of this piece is to visually display a side effect rather than writing it, as a visual warning signal. I wanted to take this opportunity to create something similar to a pamphlet that they give you with your prescription, but turn that into a piece of art. Each image represents a side effect that I have experienced on various medications and it shows my experience so lets see if you relate to any of them and can guess what they represent! The following side effects are displayed: fever, vertigo, drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, and depression. I want to be clear that this is not a piece designed to hate on the use of prescription drugs, I believe that when use appropriately they can be extremely helpful. The goal is to turn a warning label into a visual representation so that you can imagine yourself experiencing each side effect.
